FAQ
-
How does the BRAVE green media work?
Here is a step-by-step description of the process:
1. BRAVE uses a climateRisk flag in the Scope3 API to curate inventory that avoids climate risk.
2. Brand advertisers activate BRAVE Green Media through their preferred DSP or managed service.
3. Scope3 measures daily emissions and ensures compliance with GMP (Green Media Products) standards.
4. BRAVE tracks and optimizes campaign carbon emissions, generating detailed reports on both the carbon footprint (powered by Scope3) and campaign performance.

What exactly is measured in the green media report?
We measure the total emissions associated with inventory packaged under BRAVE Green Media. These emissions stem from both the ad selection and media distribution processes within the programmatic value chain.
Media distribution emissions include the CO₂e generated by content delivery systems (CMS), CDNs, hosting services, publishing overhead (such as employee and office operations), and data transfer. Ad selection emissions cover CO₂e generated by ad tech infrastructure, including servers and cloud computing, analytics, network traffic, data storage, data providers, and vendor overhead. Which ad products are included in BRAVE green media?
Green media products may include video and display programmatic campaigns on desktop, mobile, and CTV devices.
-
How do you decide which apps are in the green media list?
Our list of green media apps are curated in collaboration with Scope3. The inventory is measured using the Scope3 emissions model and then grouped by Country site popularity rankings, then ranked by emissions (gCO₂PM) to identify inventory sources with the lowest emissions. Scope3 uses various sources of data to determine wasteful emissions inventory sources: ad clutter, high density & frequency of ads, and confusing user experience. The highest emitting domains/apps as well as MFA inventory are blocked when applying Climate Shield. We exclude high-emission inventory as per the green media Standards set by Scope3.
